Ford Edge engine difficult to start



With mileage of about 10,000 km of the 2014 Ford Edge (EDGE) 2.0 L SUV. The car recently after add gasoline, can not start the engine at one time, need start 6-7 times. After start engine, the vehicle as usual, the instrument without any fault warning light and fault information indicates. After flameout starts again, the engine can be started successfully without any start difficulty phenomenon.
Check Analysis: Use Rotunda Ford IDS to self-diagnosis each system of the car, not found fault code. In order to verify the failure phenomenon, observed the car when refueling, try to start the engine, found the battery power sufficient, starter running stronger, but the engine can not start successfully. After staying 30s try again, still can not successfully start the engine. After try repeated 6-7 times, the last time throttle in the end, the engine started successfully.

Based on the above test results, analysis the fault may be involved include: the fuel supply system, fuel evaporation control system, EVAP control solenoid valve, engine control unit PCM and relevant sensors and actuators. About the phenomenon of throttle in the end the engine can smoothly start, preliminary diagnosis is combustible mixture into the cylinder too thick, think the fault is appears after oiling into the fuel tank, whether affected by the fuel vapor?

Then connect Rotunda Ford VCM 2 check the EVAP system path diagram. The fuel vapor of the fuel tank through canister and then through hard plastic fuel vapor inlet tube connected to the fuel evaporation emission canister purge control solenoid valve. The valve is closed usually, through the duty cycle signal of PCM to control its opening, and then take the fuel vapor through hard plastic tube into intake system.

According to EVAP working principle analysis, when refueling into the fuel tank, due to the flow of gasoline, the fuel tank will generate a lot of gasoline vapor, good sealing EVAP system will not take a large amount of fuel vapor introduced into the intake manifold into the combustion chamber burning. According to this thinking, remove the fuel evaporation emission canister purge control solenoid valve, after check found the solenoid valve is mechanical damage, the valve always in opening state, not controlled by pulse width modulated signal of PCM. So when filling the fuel tank of gasoline, a lot of gasoline vapor through damage caused always opening fuel vapor control solenoid valve into the intake manifold, caused mixture air too thick (combustion limit), engine start difficulty fault phenomenon.

Troubleshooting: Replace the EVAP fuel evaporation emission canister purge control solenoid valve, test normal.
